Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • Optional: cinnamon (for added flavor)

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk the dry ingredients together until well blended.
  • In another bowl, whisk the eggs and add the milk along with the vanilla extract. Blend until fully combined.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until the dough forms. Let it rest for about 10 minutes.
  • On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about ½ inch thick. Cut out circles using a round cookie cutter.
  • Place the cut beignets on a floured tray, allowing some space between them.

Cooking

  • In a deep frying pan or Dutch oven, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. The oil is ready when a small piece of dough dropped into it sizzles.
  • Carefully drop several beignets into the hot oil, frying for about 2-3 minutes per side until they are golden brown.
  • Use a slotted spoon to transfer the beignets onto a cooling rack set over paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  • Dust with powdered sugar before serving them warm.

Notes

Ensure your oil is at the correct temperature to avoid greasy beignets. Fry in small batches for even cooking. Beignets can be stored overnight and reheated gently.
