Equipment

  • 1 9x13-inch baking dish greased
  • 1 Mixing Bowl large
  • 1 Whisk

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of thick-sliced bread
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Optional Toppings

  • Maple syrup to serve
  • Fresh berries to serve
  • Powdered sugar to serve

Instructions

Preparation

  • Cut the bread into thick slices, about 1 inch thick, and set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  • Arrange the bread slices in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Pour the custard mixture over the bread, making sure each slice is soaked.
  • Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight to allow the bread to absorb the custard.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Remove the dish from the refrigerator, uncover, and bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
  • Allow the French toast to cool for a few minutes before serving to let the custard set.

Serving and Storage

  • Slice and serve warm, topped with maple syrup, fresh berries, or powdered sugar as desired.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave before serving.
