  • ½ cup granulated sugar Adjust to taste if desired.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt Balances the sweetness.
  • optional granulated sugar for sprinkling on top Adds sweetness and texture.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Add the vanilla extract and mix until fully combined.
  • Gradually sift in the all-purpose flour and salt, mixing until the dough comes together.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out to about ½ inch thick.
  • Cut out cookies using a round or decorative cutter and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  • If desired, sprinkle a little granulated sugar on top.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Remove from the oven and cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container to keep them fresh for up to a week. For a richer flavor, use European-style butter.
