Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet or your choice)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, combine the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Beat until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  • Gently stir in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  • Use a tablespoon or cookie scoop to drop rounded dough onto baking sheets lined with parchment paper, spacing them about two inches apart.
  • Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  • Let the cookies sit on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool.

Notes

For softer cookies, under-bake them by a minute or two. Chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking for thicker cookies. Substitute half of the chocolate chips with nuts for added texture. Experiment with different flavored extracts such as almond or hazelnut. These cookies freeze well; just thaw them before enjoying.
