  • Wire Rack

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter ≈226 g
  • 2 cups granulated sugar ≈400 g
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder ≈85 g
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour ≈125 g
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips optional, ≈175 g

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan or line with parchment for easy removal.
  • In a large mixing bowl, melt the butter. Whisk in the granulated sugar until combined.
  • Let the mixture cool slightly. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, combine cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring just until combined.
  • Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips, if using.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  • Bake for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool further before slicing.

Notes

Use high-quality chocolate for a richer flavor. A light sprinkle of sea salt on top adds great contrast.
