Equipment

  • 1 9x13-inch baking dish greased
  • 1 Mixing Bowl large
  • 1 Whisk

Ingredients

Custard

  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

French Toast

  • 1 loaf brioche or challah bread sliced

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugar, and vanilla until well combined. Add cocoa powder and chocolate chips, stirring until smooth.
  • Slice the brioche or challah bread into thick slices, each about 1 inch thick. Arrange the slices in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Pour the custard mixture over the bread slices, ensuring each piece is fully covered. Press down gently to help the bread absorb the custard.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F. Allow the bread to soak in the custard for at least 30 minutes, or refrigerate overnight for deeper flavor.
  • Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for another 20-25 minutes, or until the top is set and slightly browned.

Serving

  • Allow the baked French toast to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm with your favorite toppings.

Storage

  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave before serving.
