Equipment

  • 1 Baking Dish large enough to hold chicken in a single layer
  • 1 Saucepan for BBQ sauce
  • 1 Basting Brush

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

BBQ Sauce

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp liquid smoke

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it's hot and ready for the chicken.
  • Pat the chicken breasts dry and rub them with olive oil. Season both sides with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.

Make the BBQ Sauce

  • In a saucepan, mix together the ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and liquid smoke. Heat over medium, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  • Let the sauce simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly. Remove from heat and set aside.

Cook the Chicken

  • Place the seasoned chicken breasts in a baking dish. Brush them generously with the BBQ sauce, ensuring they're well coated.
  • Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 35 minutes. Remove the foil, baste with more sauce, and bake for another 15 minutes.
  • Ensure the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) to confirm it's fully cooked.

Serving

  • Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve warm with your choice of side dishes.

Storage

  • Place any leftover chicken in an airtight container. Refrigerate for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
